SPIKE TV UPDATE

The ridiculous war between Spike Lee and Spike TV (aka TNN) could be over soon. A New York Supreme Court judge has tentatively set a July 7 non-jury trial to determine whether viewers would associate the filmmaker with the Viacom-owned cable channel — as Lee's lawsuit claims. The Do the Right Thing auteur has until today to agree to the judge's proposal. Otherwise, we'll all have to suffer through a jury trial later this summer. In related news, The Associated Press reports that TNN filed court papers by Spike Jones Jr., son of the legendary music satirist, saying it is "frightening" that Lee is trying to claim exclusive ownership of the name "Spike."
