Sofia Vergara can't catch a break: At the Magic Mike XXL premiere in Hollywood Thursday, pro-life protesters showed up to remind her about her ongoing embryo custody battle with ex-fiance Nick Loeb.
Vergara — who now is engaged to Joe Manganiello — and Loeb created two embryos with her eggs and his sperm when they were together. Their contract specified that both parties had to agree to move forward with implanting the embryos.
They have long since broken up, and obviously Vergara has moved on. But Loeb has been on a public campaign to take full custody of the embryos and implant them in a surrogate. He recently wrote an op-ed in the New York Times stating that he felt life began at conception and he wanted to raise his daughters (both embryos are female) with or without Vergara's support.
Since he has no legal justification for taking control of the embryos, he has sought the support of the pro-life community. And they came out in force at the premiere of Magic Mike XXL, holding signs that read, "Unfreeze your daughters! Unfreeze your heart!" and "Lives created should be lives protected!"
In addition, her Hollywood Walk of Fame star was defaced with #EmbryoDefense, written in Sharpie.
Do you think it was appropriate for protesters to show up at the Magic Mike XXL premiere?
