Hilty stars in the NBC series opposite Katharine McPhee, who plays Karen Cartwright, an ingénue also vying for the coveted role. "You'll find out who gets it first very soon," Hilty says, emphasizing the word "first" and implying that that casting may not be permanent. "The thing about making a musical is that you can and will be replaceable really quickly."
