Abbie is in purgatory. Ichabod has been buried alive. Irving is going to jail. Katrina is in Headless' clutches. And Jenny might be dead. That's how Sleepy Hollowleft our favorite heroes at the end of Season 1 when supposed ally Henry Parrish (John Noble) revealed himself to be not just Ichabod (Tom Mison) and Katrina's (Katia Winter) long-dead son, but also War of the Four Horsemen.

Sleepy Hollow Postmortem: What's in store for Season 2? War!

When the Fox drama returns, there will be a few new faces populating Sleepy Hollow. "With Irving [Orlando Jones] incarcerated, we have to figure out who's going to be in charge of the law and order in Sleepy Hollow," executive producer Mark Goffman said during Wednesday's PaleyFest panel honoring the show. Unfortunately, the new captain coming to town is not an ally to Abbie (Nicole Beharie) and Ichabod.

Once the members of the team are somehow freed from their perilous positions and reunited, they will find a weapon of sorts in a new character that will be a foil for the Headless Horsemen. "We're creating a new creature that our team kind of controls but doesn't," executive producer Len Wiseman said. "It's a dangerous creation that Headless will have to face ... that's as evil and scary as Headless." How will the team create this new creature? "They have one element of the Headless Horsemen that they possess: His head!"

However, the producers would not reveal whether the team would be whole. At the end of the finale, Headless made Jenny's (Lyndie Greenwood) car flip, leaving her for dead. "You can be dead, but that doesn't mean you're gone," Goffman said. Still, fans will get more backstory about the sisters and explore their relationship as Abbie embraces "this role as a Witness," he added, also hinting that another dead character, Andy Brooks (John Cho), might return for several episodes.

Sleepy Hollow Finale: War didn't come to town ... he was already there!

War will also be back in full force, along with some foot soldiers that he will use in the upcoming battle. "It's a season about war," Goffman said. "It's a season about redemption." But whether War can get redemption is a big question that will cause some strife between his parents. "What do you do when your son becomes the horsemen of the apocalypse? That's what Ichabod is going to have to contemplate if he gets out of that pine box."

"As evil as he is and what he did is, it's still their son," Wiseman added. "So it's not going to be an easy one to decide what to do with him. At the end of it, can you kill your own son? That's going to cause conflict."

As for poor Irving, who took the fall for the priest's death to protect his family, it sounds like he'll be going for the insanity defense. "Who knows what we'll find at Tarrytown Psychiatric," Goffman said, pointing out that Irving is now "utterly powerless."
