The wacky adventures of bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison will continue to stretch the limits of believability as Showtime has ordered a fifth season of the national security drama Homeland. Also getting good news from the network was Homeland's Sunday night companion, The Affair, which was renewed for a second season.

Homeland will return in 2015 with 12 new episodes. The drama remains Showtime's biggest draw even after it blew itself up in Season 3 with the death of one of its central characters. However, ratings are down in Season 4 from Season 3 as not everyone is feeling the show's reinvention.

The critically adored The Affair will keep the infidelity going with 10 more episodes next year despite never topping 700,000 viewers in overnight ratings. But the good news is that the show's audience has grown considerably over the course of its first four episodes (ratings data forSunday's episode was unavailable as of press time), indicating that positive word of mouth is out after it was called one of the fall's best new dramas by the press.
