Schwartz died Tuesday of natural causes in his sleep, surrounded by his family, TMZ reports.
A New Jersey native, Schwartz got his start writing for Bob Hope's radio program in 1939 before moving on to such radio shows as the Armed Forces Radio Network, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet and The Alan Young Show.
He segued into television in the '50s, working as a script supervisor on My Favorite Martian and writing for I Married Joan and The Red Skelton Show, for which he won a comedy writing Emmy in 1961.
