Sherwood Schwartz, the Emmy-winning creator of Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch, has died. He was 94.
Schwartz died Tuesday of natural causes in his sleep, surrounded by his family, TMZ reports.
A New Jersey native, Schwartz got his start writing for Bob Hope's radio program in 1939 before moving on to such radio shows as the Armed Forces Radio Network, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet and The Alan Young Show.
He segued into television in the '50s, working as a script supervisor on My Favorite Martian and writing for I Married Joan and The Red Skelton Show, for which he won a comedy writing Emmy in 1961.

Three years later, Schwartz created Gilligan's Island, which lasted for three seasons before CBS abruptly canceled it to save Gunsmoke. Schwartz then created The Brady Bunch in 1969, which ran for five seasons on ABC. He composed the themes to both shows.Schwartz also created the short-lived series It's About Time and Dusty's Trail and worked on Big John, Little John, which starred Brady Bunch's Robbie Rist, and Harper Valley PTA. His last project was the Elliott Gould '80s sitcom Together We Stand.In 2008, Schwartz was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mildred Schwartz, and four children, Don, Lloyd, Hope — who is named after Bob Hope — and writer Lloyd J. Schwartz, who created The Munsters Today.
