Shades of Blue Renewed for Second Season

Steady yourself for more nail-biting: Jennifer Lopez will play the perpetually-in-danger detective Harlee Santos for another season. NBC renewed the cop drama Shades of Bluefor a second season.

"We want to thank Jennifer, who is the hardest working woman we know, for her incredible efforts as both the star and producer of this show, as well as well as our other amazing producers and cast for all their tireless work in creating one of the most compelling dramas on television today," said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke in a statement. "We're so excited to find out where this story will lead and have them raise the stakes even higher in what we know will be a fantastic second season."

Shades of Blue, which also starsShades of Blueand counts Ryan Seacrest as one of its executive producers, has been a win for NBC, giving the network its first wins inThursday night in-season regular programming over rival networks in at least five years. It has an average 2.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 11.2 million viewers overall, and is one of the most time-shifted shows on TV - meaning recorded and watched later - with boosts as much as 95 percent in mid-January.

This is also a good look for Lopez, whose return to scripted TV coincides with juggling American Idoland a residency in Las Vegas.
