Adnan Syed, the subject of the popular podcast Serial, has been granted a new hearing and will be allowed to present new evidence in his defense, The Huffington Post reports.

Syed, 35, is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of his girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, in 1999. The first season of Serialexplored whether or not he had been given a fair trial the first time around.

A Baltimore judge on Friday ruled that the case should be reopened "in the interest of justice for all parties." Syed's lawyers will be able to submit new evidence at the hearing, including testimony from Asia McClain, a potential alibi witness who was never called to testify during the original trial.

Lawyers will also present documents calling into question the reliability of cell phone records that were used as evidence against Syed in the original trial.
