The debut of A&E's new unscripted show, Beyond Scared Straight, attracted 3.7 million viewers, making it the network's most-watched series to date.
Based on the Emmy and Academy Award-winning documentary Scared Straight!, the series profiles unique approaches to juvenile crime prevention in prisons around the United States. Thursday's premiere was set in a women's prison in Central California.
"We could not be more proud to have undertaken this groundbreaking series and the audience response is extremely rewarding," Bob DeBitetto, president and general manager of A&E Network and BIO Channel, said in a statement.
Thursday's outing continues the network's strong week of ratings. Wednesday night's Storage Wars was the most-watched episode of the series with 2.8 million viewers, and Monday's finale of Hoarders drew 3 million viewers.
