It's Scandal's most closely-guarded secret of the season: Who is the mole?

The identity of the mole, formally known as Albatross, will finally be revealed in Thursday's episode (10/9c, ABC) and will shock fans so much, they may need to be sedated — so says executive producer Shonda Rhimes.

"When the cast found out who the mole was, they lost their minds," Rhimes tells TVGuide.com. "Literally people jumped up from the table and ran around the table screaming because they were freaking out. But then when we revealed the twist on the twist of who the mole was, which was who else and what else might be involved with that, I thought we were going to have to sedate people because they freaked out even more."

Scandal Finale Scoop: What's the fallout from Fitz's decision?

The mole has plagued OPA throughout the season, which became even more intriguing when viewers learned that Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) and B613 were also hot on his or her trail. But Rhimes insists that the mole revelation will be topped quickly and immediately. "It's not just who the mole is, it's what happens right after you find out that's the thing that blows people mind, which I'm excited about," she says.

With our thinking caps on, we pitched two likely suspects — since Cyrus (Jeff Perry) is no longer in the running. It could be Sally Langston (Kate Burton), the Vice President, or Governor Reston (Tom Amandes), who lost the presidency to Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) because of the election-rigging in Defiance. In response, Rhimes only offers, "Interesting. Those are both interesting theories."

Meanwhile, and possibly connected, someone close to OPA will betray Olivia (Kerry Washington) and the team in Thursday's episode. But Rhimes remains mum on who that is, other than to say it is likely someone we already know. "There are definitely some game-changing things that happen in the finale," Rhimes says. "But I can think of like five game-changing things that happen in the finale that will completely change where you think that we're going."

Scandal Postmortem: Will Olivia and Fitz finally get together?

"We will see people try to make people dead in the finale," Rhimes cryptically adds. "Possibly OPA is in danger."

In keeping with last year's finale shocker — which left fans wondering, "Who Is Quinn Perkins?" — Rhimes says we'll have an even bigger question to ponder over the summer. "We're going to leave people with fairly large questions," she says. "We're going to leave people with the question, 'What the hell is going to happen next and how are they going to get out of that?' We're pretty excited about it."
