Scandal plans to end its third season with a bang — literally.
After OPA dismantled B613 just as Maya Pope's (Khandi Alexander) assassination plot came together, POTUS & Co. are forced to work with the enemy during Thursday's episode, calling in former B613 command Rowan (Joe Morton) for help. Of course, Jake (Scott Foley) is pissed and tells Olivia (Kerry Washington) that she's making a big mistake. For once, he was wrong.
When Leo (Paul Adelstein) comes close to finding out that the First Son Jerry (Dylan Minnette) might not actually be Fitz's child, Rowan warns Olivia, giving her the opportunity to confront Mellie (Bellamy Young). At first, Olivia assumes that one of the children was fathered by Andrew (Jon Tenney), but Mellie drunkenly admits she's been living a lie for 15 years, that Big Jerry (Barry Bostwick) is the father. She immediately regrets what she's said and tells Olivia to clean up this mess because the First Mistress owes her.
However, Rowan didn't completely stay on his best behavior. When Huck (Guillermo Diaz) brings in the bomb maker (Sebastian Roche), Rowan is all too quick to threaten to kill him with a round of Russian Roulette — twice in one week on network TV?! — in order to get Maya to reveal the location of the bomb. Unfortunately, Maya decides not to save her true love and lets Rowan kill the man that stole his life.
With Fitz falling behind Sally (Kate Burton) in the polls, he decides to head to Defiance for one last big rally before the election. Yes, that Defiance. The county that was rigged and won him the last election. Rowan sends Olivia to Defiance knowing Maya would never let the bomb explode with her daughter there. Maya shows up to OPA — walking right past the dirty sex that Huck and Quinn (Katie Lowes) are having in the parking lot — and warns Rowan to get Olivia out of the building. However, it's a trap. Maya only wanted to get close to Rowan so she could kill him. Olivia returns to OPA and holds her dying father in her arms as she desperately waits for the ambulance to arrive.
Meanwhile, after enlisting David's (Josh Malina) help, Jake is able to track down Maya's location and figures out that she actually murdered Senator Hightower knowing that Fitz would attend his funeral, where the bomb lies in wait. But Cyrus (Jeff Perry) lets his monster flag fly and does not alert the authorities to the location of the bomb because Sally will be present. Unfortunately, as we see in the closing moments, so is Andrew. But don't worry! Cyrus stalls Fitz, who likely won't even step foot inside that church before the bomb goes off.
Will Sally and Andrew die in the blast that's coming in next week's season finale? Who else could fall victim? Harrison is being held at gunpoint by Adnan (Nazanin Boniadi), and Rowan seems like he'll be dead on arrival. And poor Leo, also at the funeral, you know you have to die, buddy. You're just too damn evil. Hit the comments with who you think might fall victim to Maya's dastardly plan!
Scandal's season finale airs Thursday at 10/9c on ABC.
