Actor and Pulitzer Prize winner Sam Shepard was arrested and charged with a DUI on Saturday morning in central Illinois.
Shepard was pulled over in Normal, Ill. for speeding and was subsequently given a breathalyzer test that revealed his blood-alcohol level to be twice the legal limit, Reuters reports.
The 65-year-old, who was driving 46 mph in a 30-mph zone, told police he had been at a tavern and was heading to a hotel as he was en route from Minnesota to his home in Kentucky.
Shepard won the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for best drama for his play, Buried Child. He earned a supporting actor Oscar nomination for 1983's The Right Stuff.
