Brothers & Sisters' Sally Field has set her sights on something a little sexier. Kidding! She'll play dowdy, old Mary Todd Lincoln (Abraham's wife) in Steven Spielberg's upcoming biopic Lincoln opposite Daniel Day-Lewis as the bearded, emancipating prez.
Spielberg told The Hollywood Reporter that Field was his "first choice to portray all the fragility and complexity that was Mary Todd Lincoln" in the film, based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's 2005 book Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. That tome focused on Lincoln's handling of conflicts within his Cabinet.
Lincoln should begin filming in the fall. A fourth-quarter 2012 release date is expected.
