New Roseanne Promos Poke Fun at Dan's Resurrection

You can't live in the past, but you can pretend it never happened!

Kat Rosenfield

One of the most frequently mocked aspects of the upcoming Roseannerevival is the way the show decided to just gloss over the teeny, tiny, insignificant fact that one of its main characters is supposed to be dead. And when it came to releasing a few teasers for Roseanne's upcoming return to TV, the folks in the writer's room made the most of the opportunity to poke fun at their own show.

In one of three new promos for the series, Dan (John Goodman) is watching basketball on the couch and waxing nostalgic for the Chicago Bulls of the mid-to-late '90s. Cue Roseanne (Roseanne Barr), who crows, "You can't live in the past, Dan! When things are gone, they're gone forever!"

Needless to say, Dan himself is the exception to that rule. After dying of a heart attack back in the series' original run, he's miraculously alive for this one, a narrative wrinkle that ABC has promised will make sense... somehow. Will the original series finale be revealed as just another chapter in someone else's fictional story? Or a dream within a dream? We'll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, you can enjoy the spectacle of a living Dan in all three new promos.

Roseanne will return in 2018 for a limited 10th season.
