Robin Roberts to Receive ESPYS Award for Courage

Robin Roberts will receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2013 ESPYS, ESPN announced Tuesday.

Robin Roberts will receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2013 ESPYS, ESPN announced Tuesday.
The Good Morning Americaco-anchor is being honored for her inspirational fight against breast cancer and a rare blood disorder, both of which she's battled in the past five years. Roberts was one of the first female sports anchors on ESPN in the '90s before being named co-anchor of GMA in 2005. She returned to GMA last month after taking medical leave to undergo a bone marrow transplant for the blood disorder last summer.

"Robin brings an amazing amount of energy, compassion and determination to everything she does," ESPN President John Skipper said in a statement. "Those qualities made her an incredible asset during her time here at ESPN, and they have served her well as she battled the terrible health challenges that she's had to face.""Her unbreakable spirit was ingrained from an early age in Mississippi," ABC News president Ben Sherwood added.The ESPYS will air July 17 at 9/8c on ESPN.
