Internet sensationRick and Morty carried on that fine tradition set by Bob's Burgers last year that says there are way more Emmy-worthy animated series out there than just The Simpsonsand South Park.

The win comes on the heels of Adult Swim ordering an insane 70 additional episodes of the kooky sci-fi adventures of Rick Sanchez (Justin Roiland) and his reluctant assistant and grandson, Morty Smith (Justin Roiland), straight from the wild imaginations of Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. Rick and Morty's win also comes on the heels of contreversial footage of an earlier Dan Harmon skit called Daryl, which allegedly featured a lead character raping a babydoll. WTF, Dan Harmon. WTF.

Yeah. So. That's messed up but I guess the internet has had its fill of decimating the careers of people who made tasteless crap ten years ago after the whole James Gunn/Guardians of the Galaxyfiasco. Creator Justin Roiland is clearly focused on celebrating his team's win.

Don't think of it as selling out, Justin. Think of it as buying in.

The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards will air Monday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on NBC.
