Spoiler Alert: Stop reading if you have not yet watched Sunday's Revenge!

Revenge has mastered the art of the red herring. The season premiere flashed forward to a male hand in the hull of a sunken boat, suggesting one of the main actors could be killed off come winter.

But in the Feb. 17 episode, Jack, Daniel and Aiden were all spared. Ditto Declan, Conrad and Nolan. Turns out, ABC's sneaky promos teasing that Emily Thorne would "pay the ultimate price" actually gave away the victim's identity: The real Emily Thorne, aka Amanda (Margarita Levieva), met a watery end aboard Jack's boat, taking her last breath while cradled in the arms of the other Emily (Emily VanCamp).

"I thought [the promo] was kind of clever, because at the end of the day it proved true," says executive producer Mike Kelley, who informed Levieva of her fate early in the season. "We felt that Amanda had achieved a satisfying arc and needed to exit." As a parting gift, the actress was presented with an engraved tire iron, her character's first murder weapon.

As for that male hand, it belonged to a minor character, mobster Nate Ryan (Michael Trucco). But the way Trucco learned of his demise was less than ideal. "In the premiere, we made sure you could see there was a wedding ring on the corpse," says Kelley. When Kelley sent a costumer to fit Trucco for a ring, the exec producer says, "His face just fell."

Going forward, Jack will vow vengeance on Conrad, whom he blames for his wife's death; Nolan gets a new tech-savvy archenemy; Emily's foster brother arrives; and a huge secret will be revealed about Victoria. "The rest of the season will be drawing Jack and Emily back into each other's circles, with Emily finding it very difficult to continue keeping her secret," says Kelley.  And the season finale, he says, will see Lady Thorne facing an "enormous betrayal." Sounds like a recipe for...revenge.
