Reese Witherspoon opens up about loves past and present in April's Elle magazine.
In the interview, the Oscar-winning actress and mother of two says her divorce from Ryan Phillippe, her husband of seven years, was "very humiliating and very isolating." Witherspoon does believe, however, that ending a marriage isn't supposed to be easy.
"If it's not painful, maybe it wasn't the right decision to marry to begin with," she said. "Those are the appropriate emotions."
Witherspoon also said she tried to avoid putting all the blame on her ex."It's a really easy thing to do, and I'm certainly guilty of it," she said. "[You have to] look at yourself and go, 'What part of this do I need to own? Which part of this is my responsibility? And that's the painful work that you have to go through to hopefully get some real life knowledge out of it."
But life with new beau Jake Gyllenhaal, whom she met on the set of their 2007 drama, Rendition, isn't so painful. "He's fabulous," Witherspoon said. "He really is a fantastic guy."
