Baltimore Ravens Fire Ray Rice After Domestic Violence Video Emerges

The Baltimore Ravens released running back Ray Rice Monday after a video that showed Rice knocking his then-fiancée unconscious surfaced online.
According to a New Jersey court summons, Rice was accused of "striking [Janay Palmer] with his hand" on February 15 at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City. Both were arrested that night for assault. On Monday TMZ has posted video of both the knockout and the aftermath. (WARNING: The videos contain disturbing footage.) In the video, Rice hits Palmer, who strikes him back. Rice then punches her, knocking her off her feet smashing her head into the hand rail, knocking her unconscious.

After the incident, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Rice without pay for the first two games of the regular season. But the NFL told TMZ Sports they did not see the footage before handing out the punishment. Once the footage was released, the Ravens released Rice without further comment.

Shortly after the Ravens released Rice, Goodell also suspended Rice from the league indefinitely based on the new video evidence. It is unclear whether or not Rice will be able to apply for reinstatement at a later date. "It's indefinite," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told USA Today.

Rice and Palmer got married one month after the incident. In July, Rice said his actions were inexcusable and that he and his wife were in counseling. 

Fantasy football fans also responded harshly. Since the video's release, Rice became the No.2 most dropped running back and the No. 5 most dropped overall player in Yahoo's Add/Drop rankings, according to TMZ.
