Just how high is interest in Their Highnesses? If the ratings for NBC's Inside the Royal Wedding are any indication, most TV viewers won't be setting their alarms for the pre-dawn hours to see Prince William marry Kate Middleton.
The special attracted 5.21 million loyal subjects and just a 1.2 rating among 18-to-49-year-olds in the first hour of Wednesday's prime time. Polls vary about interest in the nuptials — some are expressing little interest, Twitter is all over the place about it, and 64 percent of TVGuide.com users maintain they'll watch.
There's no question, however, about the enduring interest in American Idol, which averaged 21.67 million people and a 6.9 rating in the demo. The new Fox comedy Breaking In starring Christian Slater continued to benefit from airing in Idol's wake, as 7.61 million tuned in.
In prime time's first hour, CBS' Survivor: Redemption Island attracted 10.87 million people vs. a rerun of ABC's The Middle (5.19 million viewers at 8/7c), a fresh Better With You (4.82 million at 8:30) and a repeat of the CW's America's Next Top Model (1.19 million).
At 9/8c, a Criminal Minds rerun nabbed 9.14 million viewers. Another rerun of ABC's Modern Family had a viewership of 6.02 million, followed by a new Cougar Town at 9:30 with 5.6 million. An encore of Tuesday's two-hour premiere of NBC's The Voice tallied 5.65 million people while a new Model attracted 2.32 million on the CW.
A rerun of CBS' Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior took the last hour of prime time, getting 7.47 million compared with 5.22 million for a first-run Happy Endings starring Elisha Cuthbert and 4.42 million for yet another recycled Modern Family.
