Seth MacFarlane may have been a "mediocre" host, but he's getting the last laugh. Sunday's Oscars telecast was up 19 percent from last year, according to early numbers.

The three-and-a-half hour show averaged 37 million viewers and a 12.1 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic. Last year's Bill Crystal-fronted ceremony pulled in an 11.7 rating. The pre-show also rose from last year, drawing 24.6 million viewers and a 6.9. Final numbers will be in later Monday.The Amazing Race was the only show to air an original episode against the Oscars, hitting a series low with 6.7 million viewers and a 1.8.
