CBS' Grammy Awards telecast, which averaged 17.6 million viewers over its prime-time span, couldn't manage to outdraw Fox's American Idol (28.3 mil) during the 8 o'clock hour, but surged enough from 9 to 11 to edge out ABC's Lost (18.75 mil) and then NBC's Law & Order (14.6 mil).
