The launch makes Murder in the First the No. 1 new series launch on cable. With an encore, the drama brought in 4.9 million viewers.
The series bowed following the return of Major Crimes, which drew 5.2 million viewers, up 3 percent from the Season 2 premiere. The Closer spin-off rose to 6.7 million after its encore.
