Country singer Randy Travis, who has been hospitalized since Sunday due to complications from congestive heart failure, suffered a stroke in the hospital on Wednesday and is in critical condition, according to his publicist.
"As a complication of his congestive heart failure, Mr. Randy Travis has suffered a stroke and is currently undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on his brain," Travis' rep said in a statement issued late Wednesday. "He is in critical condition. We will have updates as they become available. His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support."
As of early Thursday morning, there was no word on the results of the surgery.
Travis, 54, issued a statement on Tuesday thanking his fans for their "love and support during this time."
