Country singer Randy Travis is reaching out to his fan after being hospitalized Sunday due to heart problems.

The Grammy winner, 54, was admitted to a Texas hospital Sunday after suffering complications from a recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy, a condition caused by a viral infection in the heart. Travis' rep, Kirk Webster, denied reports that Travis had undergone heart surgery, but Webster did confirm that the singer had received an Impella peripheral left ventricular assist device, which the Mayo Clinic describes as a mechanical pump that helps send blood from a person's heart to the rest of the body. Travis remained in critical condition as of Tuesday.

"We are very thankful to the fans for their love and support during this time," Travis said in a statement.

Travis has most recently been in the news for legal issues. In February 2012, Travis was arrested for public intoxication. Six months later, he was booked on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and retaliation against law enforcement officials when he was found lying on a Texas road unclothed and smelling of alcohol after crashing his car. He eventually pleaded guilty to the August accident in January 2013 and received a $2,000 fine, a 180-day suspended jail sentence and two years of probation.
