Before that, Roddenberry racked up an impressive résumé writing for such shows as Highway Patrol; Have Gun, Will Travel; Naked City; Bat Masterson; The Detectives and Dr. Kildare. All of that makes sense when you consider his pre-TV life as, among other things, a military and airline pilot and as a Los Angeles policeman. It's also worth noting that The Lieutenant featured guest shots from such Trek regulars as Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols and Roddenberry's future wife, Majel Barrett.
