Considering such salacious Pussycat Dolls lyrics as, "Doncha wish your girlfriend was a freak like me?" and "I don't need a hand if it only wants to grab one thing," it's kind of surprising that the girl group draws the line at a new member who is too sexy. Wha? TVGuide.com was baffled that Brittany Diiorio was booted from the CW's The Search for the Next Doll (Tuesdays at 9 pm/ET) when her moves were deemed too provocative by the judges and choreographer Mikey Minden. Lil' Kim is one of the judges, for goodness' sake, and she's not exactly known for her ladylike ways. We invited Brittany to shed some light on this situation.
TVGuide.com: I was surprised to see you go. I didn't know someone could be deemed too sexy for the Pussycat Dolls.
Brittany Diiorio: I know! That's what I thought the Pussycat Dolls were. I guess I was trying too hard.
TVGuide.com: What did you think of Mikey calling you a "Stripperella"?
Brittany: He is such a nut. He is so harsh. I had to bite my tongue a lot with him. He didn't call me that [to my face] on the show, when I was in the competition. I heard it like everybody else did, watching the show. With reality TV, there's a lot of editing and cutting out of what really happened, and I was kind of portrayed as this stripper and skanky girl who thought she was better than everyone, when I really am not like that at all. It gets kind of frustrating, but I've been doing competitions my whole life, so it is one of those things where you learn from the experience and move on. There's really nothing you can do about it.
TVGuide.com: Did he at least teach you any good dance moves?
Brittany: [Laughs] I guess not, because I just left there looking like a stripper. He taught me some good poses, I'll say that.
TVGuide.com: I found it crazy that the judges said you were too sexy, seeing as the first competition had you dancing in boxes in a bar, wearing lingerie.
Brittany: I know! I'm watching the show with my mom and she's like, "I don't understand, all the other girls look more slutty than you do. Why'd they make you out to be this stripper girl?" Maybe they just really wanted me out of the competition, so they made up something.
TVGuide.com: Just what you want to hear from Mom — that other girls are much sluttier than you.
Brittany: My mom is blunt and honest. [Laughs]
TVGuide.com: Why did you want to be a Pussycat Doll? Are you a fan?
Brittany: I'm definitely a fan of their music. I've been a classically trained dancer since I was a little girl, and I'm so sick of seeing these artists who are just all about their voice and not about their performance. Britney Spears is probably the only one who came out with a really intense quality. It was exciting to see other main dancers up there [in the Pussycat Dolls]. My best friend called me after she saw a commercial and told me I had to go out for it. I thought, "Why not?" I've been training my whole life, so maybe this will be something good for me. So I kind of went for it.
TVGuide.com: Did you have fun, at least?
Brittany: I had a blast. There were stressful times, but I got really, really close to a few of the girls. Again with reality TV, they cut stuff out, but I got really close with Asia. She's one of my best friends now, and we talk about the show after it airs, about what made us happy and what made us mad. On the show, Asia and I would go back to the house and be like, "Oh, god, Mikey's pissing me off," or this girl is, or that girl. We'd confide in each other. It was really cool to take some new friends with me who share the same dream in life that I do.
TVGuide.com: Since you do like the group, what was it like to actually meet the Pussycat Dolls?
Brittany: It was amazing and so cool. It was funny because Nicole [Scherzinger] was like my height. I'm really not that short, but I'm always being told that I'm too short, so I was like, "This is so cool! You guys are like real people." I think a lot of people in this world forget that famous people in the spotlight are real people, too. It really brought us out of the "fame and Hollywood" image of the Pussycat Dolls that we had in our minds. They are real girls like us, and they were doing what we're doing now... way back when.
TVGuide.com: I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way, but you have the most amazing abs. Any tips for us nondancers?
Brittany: [Laughs] Really? That's really hilarious, because Mikey actually commented on my stomach. He said that I was a little too "womanly shaped" for the Pussycat Dolls. He asked, "Do you work out? Do you do crunches? Well, you need to do more." I'm like, "Are you serious?" So, thank you! I have a really intense ab workout that I do.
TVGuide.com: And you probably follow some strict diet, right?
Brittany: Honestly, I'm Italian, so my diet sucks. I love fattening carbs, pasta, cheese and bread, so I just really try to not eat a lot. It is hard to be good when all the women in your family are hard-core Italian women, and cook the best dishes. I try to go to the gym every day and do cardio, and I always do crunches in the morning. Right after cardio is the best time to do them, when your stomach is the flattest. There are all sorts of techniques [to try], like sucking in your stomach when you do crunches so your abs don't form out. There are a bunch of things I've learned from dancing and training that have really kept me in the best shape that I can possibly be in.
TVGuide.com: What's next for you?
Brittany: Oh, gosh... so much. I got a manager and I'm doing the whole solo recording-artist thing. I've got some things in the works that I can't really talk about. But you'll be seeing a lot more from me, in my music. Check my MySpace page for updates.
TVGuide.com: Would you ever do anything like this show again?
Brittany: I don't know if I'd do the whole reality-TV thing again. I was kind of upset to see how I was portrayed on national television, because it isn't really the type of person that I am. If I didn't know me, I'd think Brittany was a girl who dances sexy and thinks she's better than everyone. It is kind of frustrating, so I really don't think I'll touch reality again.
