PUNCHING THE CLOCK

Mike Wallace announced on Tuesday that he is stepping down as a 60 Minutes regular and moving to the position of correspondent emeritus (which, if I correctly recall from my Latin classes, means "reporter carrying a nail file." OK, I was a lousy student.) Wallace has been with 60 Minutes since its 1968 premiere and with CBS since 1951.
