Real World San Francisco star David "Puck" Rainey was arrested on charges of driving under the influence after he and his 8-year-old son were involved in a car crash, California Highway Patrol said.
"Due to a level to his level of intoxication, he was unable to negotiate a curve in the road way," Brian Pennings, a highway patrol spokesman, told TVGuide.com Wednesday.
Pennings said that Rainey, who was driving northbound on Route 79 in San Diego County on Saturday evening with his son, lost control of his 1988 Ford Festiva before the vehicle fell down an embankment, landing on its roof in a stream bed.
Rainey's son, who suffered minor injuries, managed to extricate himself from the car, climbed up the embankment to flag down a passing motorist for help. Both were taken to University of California, San Diego, Medical Center by air ambulance.
"He was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, however he remains in the hospital due to his medical condition," Pennings said. "He will be facing charges of DUI, child endangerment and driving without a license."
Details of his condition weren't revealed, despite earlier reports.
Jennings could not comment on Rainey's blood alcohol level, only confirming that evidence of alcohol was involved.
Rainey appeared on the The Real World: San Francisco in 1994 and was evicted from the house because of his contentious relationships with his housemates.
