Former Price Is Right Model Awarded More than $8 Million After Being Fired

Brandi Cochran

The Price is... wrong?

So says the jury who awarded Brandi Cochran, a former Price Is Right model who claims she was fired after getting pregnant, $8.5 million in damages, according to the Associated Press.

On Tuesday, Cochran was awarded $777,000 in actual damages after suing the show for alleged harassment during her pregnancy, claiming she was taunted on set with names like "wide load," and was denied work after her maternity leave ended. On Wednesday, the jury followed up by tacking on an additional $7.7 million in punitive damages, bringing the total up to $8.5 million.

"I'm humbled," Cochran said after the verdict. "I'm shocked. I'm happy that justice was served today not only for women in the entertainment industry, but women in the workplace."

Still, FremantleMedia North America and The Price Is Right Productions, the companies behind the CBS show, plan to appeal. "We believe the verdict in this case was the result of a flawed process in which the court, among other things, refused to allow the jury to hear and consider that 40 percent of our models have been pregnant," FremantleMedia said in a statement.
