The actress recently told TVGuide.com a riveting story about meeting a fan at a bar who refused to believe Bellisario was really the star of her favorite TV show. In fact, when Bellisario tried to insist she really does play Spencer Hastings on the Freeform hit, the fan began to argue with her and advised Bellisario to follow herself on Instagram. Eventually, the actress had no choice but to give up the fight.
Luckily, most of the Pretty Little Liars' fan encounters have better endings.
Bellisario's favorite fan interaction came when she was shopping in a suburb outside of Toronto (where her fiancee Patrick J. Adams films Suits) and a fan approached her to ask, "Spencer, why are you here?" It was a defining moment for Bellisario because it was the first time someone off-set had called her Spencer and brought home the feeling that Pretty Little Liars was being watched outside of her social bubble.
And it's not just the actresses having close encounters with viewers. The show's creator I. Marlene King was thrilled when a teenage fan once jumped off the tram of the Warner Brothers Studios backlot tour to come meet her.
What do you think of the PLL fan encounters?
Pretty Little Liars' summer finale airs Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 8/7c on Freeform.
