Poll: Which Woman Should Moderate a Presidential Debate?

Rachel Maddow

It's been an astounding 20 years since a woman moderated a presidential debate, and many Americans seem ready for change.

So far, more than 90,000 people have joined a campaign on Change.org asking the Commission on Presidential Debates to include at least one female moderator in one of the three 2012 debates between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

The campaign was started by three New Jersey high school sophomores as part of a school project. When Emma Exelrod, Sammi Siegel and Elena Tsemberis learned that two decades had passed since ABC News' Carole Simpson moderated a presidential debate in 1992, the girls took to the web to call for change.

"[W]omen hold only 17% of the seats in Senate and 16.8% of the seats in the House of Representatives. In the past twenty years, they have made up 0% of moderators of the Presidential debates," the petition states. "Women and men will never be truly equal in our country until they're one and the same in positions of power and both visible in politics. We need to take immediate action in order to move towards this change."

Campaign co-founder Siegel added: "How can the issues important to women be addressed if they haven't been given the chance to ask [about] them?"

Do you think it's time for a change? Which woman should be asking the questions? Vote in our poll below!

Which of the following women do you think would be the best choice to moderate a presidential debate?
