Phillips, who has a congenital kidney stone problem, was ordered to have emergency surgery two weeks ago when he saw his doctor at home in Georgia, but he postponed it until after Idol was finished.

On Thursday, Phillips' father, Phillip Phillips Sr., revealed that his son had eight operations during the show's run. In March, the 21-year-old singer received emergency medical treatment for pain in his abdomen prior to the Top 13 results show.

Phillips is expected to recover in time for the Idol summer tour, which kicks off July 6. According to TMZ, he will recuperate in a Malibu mansion that belongs to  an Idol exec.
