Girls, Louie, Southland, Dr. Who and Switched at Birth were among the 39 winners of this year's Peabody Awards honoring the best in electronic media in 2012. One of the prizes also went to the ABC special Robin's Journey, about Robin Roberts' bone marrow transplant and subsequent recovery.
Lorne Michaels also won an individual award. "A rare Individual Peabody goes to Lorne Michaels because he's the patron saint of satirical television comedy and, as one of his old co-conspirators would say, you're not," the organization said in a statement.
ABC News also won an award for its coverage of Hurricane Sandy last fall, while a local news station in West Hartford, Conn., won an award for its coverage of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The awards will be presented during a ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City on May 20.
