Fending off solid debuts by Bedazzled and Pay It Forward, Meet the Parents spent its third week on top at the box office. The Robert De Niro-Ben Stiller comedy grossed another $16.3 million according to early estimates, bringing its 17-day total to $81 million. Bedazzled, starring Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley, opened at No. 2 with an impressive $13.7 million, edging out fellow newcomer Pay It Forward. The drama starring Oscar winners Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt as well as nominee Haley Joel Osment took in $10.2 million, good enough for third place. Despite lukewarm reviews, audiences reportedly are giving the Mimi Leder-directed film a big thumbs up. Remember the Titans slipped two notches to No. 4 but continued to draw a crowd. The Denzel Washington football drama grossed another $10 million for a total of 77.4 million. Jackie Chan's The Legend of the Drunken Master opened at No. 5 with $3.7 million.
