Despite no official renewal

Outlander may be gearing up for Season 4 right now, but the time-traveling drama is already looking ahead to the future. The show has already begun laying the groundwork for Season 5 despite not yet receiving the official green light from Starz.

"We are deep into planning for Season 5 even though it's not officially picked up," executive producer Ronald D. Moore confirmed to TV Guide during a For Your Consideration event in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Though Starz has yet to deliver an official renewal notice for Season 5 yet, Outlander remains one of the network's top-rated dramas so you probably don't have to worry about the show's future right now. And while production on Season 5 might be jumping the gun a bit, the head start was a necessary move in order to pack everything in for the show's anticipated move to the American colonies.

"Normally, halfway through [the current season] we start researching and prepping [for the next season]. But we're so busy this year, it's really a big year," production designer Jon Gary Steele explained. "It's my biggest build so far. It's huge. It might be the best looking year of all."

Keep your eyes peeled for the Season 5 renewal notice in the coming months. In the meantime, Season 4, which is expected to arrive sometime in 2018, will see Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) make their way to North Carolina, which will serve as their new home base moving forward. They'll arrive at a tumultuous time since the new world is currently in the middle of a fight for independence from England -- a cause Jamie should be pretty familiar with given Scotland's own struggles with England for their freedom. And with no money or property to their names, the star-crossed lovers will face a new set of challenges in the upcoming season.

Outlander will return for Season 4 later this year.
