The announcement comes on the same day as the release of the group's sophomore album, Take Me Home. One Direction marked the occasion Tuesday morning with a live performance on the Today show. (Watch our exclusive video to see some of the die-hard "Directioners" who camped out for the performance!)
In slightly more surprising news, the movie will be directed by Morgan Spurlock, the same documentarian who exposed the truth about fast food in Super Size Me and who more recently traveled to Comic-Con for a documentary about the comic book convention. Spurlock will produce the film with Ben Winston, Adam Milano and Simon Cowell, who discovered the band back in 2010 on the U.K. version of X Factor. One Direction has since sold more than 13 million albums worldwide.
The film is set to hit theaters on Labor Day 2013.
