Olympics: What to Watch on Day 14 --- US-Canada Men's Hockey Semi; Shiffrin Chases Slalom Gold

Day 14 of the Winter Olympics on Friday features a semifinal brawl between the U.S. and Canadian men's hockey teams and Mikaela Shiffrin gunning for gold in her best event. Here's what you should watch (all times ET).

The 411 on the 12 new Winter Olympic events

When: 12 p.m. on NBC Sports (live); 5 p.m. on NBC Sports (replay)A rematch of the riveting 2010 final, the border war will pit the U.S. strong offense (they've outscored opponents 20-6 so far) against Canada's defense (they've given up three goals in four games). The Canadians, however, have also struggled offensively, with star and Vancouver hero Sidney Crosby having scored zero goals and logging only two assists. The other semifinal, Sweden vs. Finland, starts at 7:00 a.m.

When: 7:45 a.m. (live); 8 p.m. on NBC (tape delay)All eyes will be on 18-year-old American and reigning world champ Mikaela Shiffrin, who would be the youngest woman to win the Olympic slalom. Shiffrin claimed the World Cup season title in the discipline last year, thanks to four victories, and has won three of the six World Cup slalom events so far this season. She'll have to fend off defending champ Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany, Austria's Marlies Schild, who owns a record 35 World cup slalom victories, and Slovenia's Tina Maze, the defending World Cup overall champ.Short track, men's 500 meters final 
When: 12:47 p.m. (live); 8 p.m. on NBC (tape delay)The American men are in danger of not medaling in short skate for the first time since 1998 (aka the pre-Apolo Anton Ohno days). J.R. Celski, the world record holder in this distance since 2012, is the U.S.' sole hope, but he'll have to contend with Russia's Viktor Ahn, who has already won a gold and bronze in Sochi, and was a bronze medalist in the 500 for South Korea in 2006. Defending champ Charles Hamelin of Canada did not advance out of Tuesday's heats. Quarterfinals start at11:30 a.m.
