The Canadians, however, have also struggled offensively, with star and Vancouver hero Sidney Crosby having scored zero goals and logging only two assists. The other semifinal, Sweden vs. Finland, starts at 7:00 a.m.

Shiffrin claimed the World Cup season title in the discipline last year, thanks to four victories, and has won three of the six World Cup slalom events so far this season. She'll have to fend off defending champ Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany, Austria's Marlies Schild, who owns a record 35 World cup slalom victories, and Slovenia's Tina Maze, the defending World Cup overall champ.Short track, men's 500 meters final

Celski, the world record holder in this distance since 2012, is the U.S.' sole hope, but he'll have to contend with Russia's Viktor Ahn, who has already won a gold and bronze in Sochi, and was a bronze medalist in the 500 for South Korea in 2006.
