Double-amputee Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorious has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp, CNN reports.

Steenkamp was found fatally shot in Pistorious's home in South Africa in the early hours of Valentine's Day, and Pistorious was arrested and taken to a police station. He is scheduled to appear in a magistrate court in Pretoria, South Africa Thursday afternoon.

Pilot Season: A complete report

Police told CNN there did not appear to be signs of forced entry and that there had been "previous incidents ... of a domestic nature" at the home. Pistorious and Steenkamp were reportedly the only two people in the house at the time of the shooting.

Pistorius, 26, became the first double-amputee to participate in the Olympics during the Summer Games in London last year. Both of his legs were amputated below the knee when he was a toddler due to a bone defect, and he earned the popular nickname "Blade Runner" because of the carbon fiber blades he uses to run.

Some reports indicated Pistorius may have mistaken Steenkamp for an intruder before he allegedly shot her; however, a police spokesperson said those came from the South African media and not from authorities.

Whether or not the alleged shooting was accidental, Steenkamp appeared to indicate prior to her death that she was looking forward to spending Valentine's Day with Pistorious.
