Nurse Jackie's Hospital Chief Visits the White House

On tonight's episode of Showtime's addictive Nurse Jackie, wacky hospital administrator Gloria Akalitis becomes obsessed with luring Michelle Obama to All Saint's Hospital to give it a little boost. Akalitis may not have an in with the First Lady, but Anna Deveare Smith, who plays the eccentric former nurse, certainly does.
On March 30, the actress was one of 20 accomplished women at the White House for the annual celebration of Women's History Month. Geena Davis, Hillary Swank, Rashida Jones and Kerry Washington were among the other entertainers invited. The happy coincidence was noted by Deveare, who before she delivered a monologue from her stage show "Let Me Down Easy," told the guests, "My character Gloria Akalitus in the entire third season of Nurse Jackie is so admiring of Michelle Obama and would love to get an invite to the White House... And now here I am at the White House!"
Mrs. Obama hasn't shown up on the New York set as of yet, but, says Dominic Fumusa, who plays Jackie's cuckolded husband Kevin. "We'd all love to her to pay a visit."
