Anti-Chemical Weapons Group Wins Nobel Peace Prize

The Prize committee, which handed out the award on Friday in Oslo, selected the OPCW for "its extensive efforts to eliminate chemical weapons."
"Disarmament figures prominently in Alfred Nobel's will," the statement reads. "The Norwegian Nobel Committee has through numerous prizes underlined the need to do away with nuclear weapons. By means of the present award to the OPCW, the Committee is seeking to contribute to the elimination of chemical weapons."
Malala Yousafzai, the 16-year-old Pakistani who was shot in the head by the Taliban, was said to be the favorite. Had she won, she would have become the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
