After nine years of invading strangers' personal space on Clean House, the cameras are about to turn on Niecy Nash. The actress, comedian and former Clean House host will document her May wedding to fiancé Jay Tucker for a new TLC special announced Monday.
"I am not used to having the tables turned on me, in terms of my private life. I am not excited about that part," Nash, 40, tells TVGuide.com. "I wanted my fans and I wanted women to understand that you can get a second chance at everything."
The special, expected to air just days after Nash's Memorial Day weekend ceremony, will show everything from finding the right dress and the right venue, to the ceremony itself. But with only 115 days to plan the wedding and the cameras rolling, is Nash destined to turn into a bridezilla?
"I do not have a bride gene," she says. "I haven't been planning a wedding since I was 3. I never put a sheet on my head and pretended that it was a veil."
Nash will have plenty of help from her mother, her wedding planner, and her bridesmaids, including Sherri Shepherd and Sheryl Lee Ralph. "When I got married in 1991, I had never been to a wedding so I didn't know that my wedding was tacky," she says. "I didn't know that I was getting married in a quinceanera dress because there was nobody there to cry over me and tell me I look like a fool."
Although reality-TV love has a less-than-stellar track record — Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey being the most famous example — Nash isn't worried about the special straining her relationship. "He is so supportive," she said of Tucker. "He said, 'If this is what you really think you want to do, let's do it.'"
Nash sounds excited to be a wife again more than anything else.
"I don't want to be Carrie Bradshaw. I don't want the wedding to be bigger than Big," she says. "I'm just grateful to know that the first time I fell in love wasn't the last time."
