Summer is just around the corner, which means it's time for broadcast networks to Scotch-tape together some throwaway shows to fill up time until the fall season comes around again. It's reality-TV heaven! And the summer starts early with a pair of unscripted programs.

NBC will continue to work with Bear Grylls and has ordered six episodes of The Island. The survival show throws 14 men on a deserted island with limited tools, no amenities and a fizzling twist: there are no eliminations, no winners, or prizes. It's like Survivor but without the competition. It's literally 14 guys on an island just trying to make it to the next day. The Island debuts Monday, May 25 on NBC.

There's plenty of cash to go around on CBS' new series The Briefcase, though. The new series explores greed and generosity by handing a financially struggling family a briefcase filled with $101,000. They're shown an equally impoverished family and have 72 hours to decide to decide how to share the money with them if they do at all. What they don't know is the other family has an identical briefcase also filled with $101,000, and have been given the same wealth-distributing options. The Briefcase premieresWednesday, May 27 at 8/7c on CBS.
