Netflix has added another series to its growing stable of original programming. Hemlock Grove, a horror series directed by Eli Roth, will be available exclusively on Netflix.com in early 2013, the company announced Wednesday.
Netflix debuts first original series Lilyhammer
Based on the novel by Brian McGreevy, the series will star Famke Jannsen (Nip/Tuck) and newcomer Bill Skarsgard. Set in a dilapidated Pennsylvania steel town, the series explores the unsolved murder of a young girl found dead in a former steel mill. Locals suspect the killer to be Roman (Skarsgard), the son of Olivia (Janssen).
Netflix and Kevin Spacey on deck with House of Cards
Roth, who directed such horror films as Cabin Fever and Hostel and starred in Inglourious Basterds, will serve as director and executive producer of the 13-episode season. "I've been waiting for years to dive into television," he said in a statement. "Brian McGreevy's novel blew me away, and the material lends itself perfectly to long format storytelling. Hemlock Grove is smart, dark, complex, and at times terrifying."
Hemlock Grove is the third original series to join Netlix's roster. The first, Lilyhammer, premiered in February, and House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey, is aiming for an end-the-year start.
