NBC is not returning to The Farm.

The network has passed on the potential Officespin-off, according to star Rainn Wilson.

"Farm Update: NBC has passed on moving forward with The Farm TV show. Had a blast making the pilot - onwards & upwards," Wilson tweeted Monday.

News first broke about plans for the possible spin-off, which was centered on Wilson's character Dwight and his Schrute family beet farm, back in January before it was announced that the current season of The Office would be its last. Paul Lieberstein, who plays Toby on The Office, left his post as showrunner of the NBC comedy to help develop The Farm. Original showrunner Greg Daniels subsequently took his place and revealed in August that The Office would be ending after Season 9.

Much like other spin-offs including Private Practice and The Finder in recent years, The Farm was supposed to first launch in an episode of The Office this season. Casting for this backdoor pilot episode began in August and included Majandra Delfino, Tom Bower, Breaking Bad's Matt Jones and The Campaign's Thomas Middleditch as members of the Schrute family. Parks and Recreation executive producer Mike Schur was set to reprise his role as Dwight's oddball cousin Mose in the episode. It is unclear if or when that episode will air.
