Apparently, Sean could not, in fact, save the world.

NBC has shut down production on Sean Saves the Worldseveral weeks before the show would have completed its freshman season, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

The Sean Hayes-headlined comedy had finished filming 14 episodes out of the total 18 installments ordered by NBC. 12 episodes have already aired, and the final two are tentatively slated to run after the Olympics. Several high-profile guest stars were slated to appear in the final episodes of Season 1, including Portia de Rossi as Sean's ex-wife, Guy Pearce as Sean's potential love interest, and Hayes' longtime Will & Grace co-star, Megan Mullally.

Fall TV Scorecard: Which shows are returning? Which aren't?

Hayes confirmed the news late Tuesday on Twitter. "Thanks to @SeanSavesWorld actors & crew & @NBC for a wonderful opportunity. Looking forward to Obama's minimum wage increase to $10/hr," he wrote.

Sean Saves the World debuted to 4.9 million viewers and a 1.6 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic back in October. Its most recent outing paled in comparison, only drawing 2.6 million and 0.7.

Hayes is an executive producer on two other NBC shows: Grimm and Hollywood Game Night.
