Roughly 15 fans were injured Sunday at the Nationwide race in Daytona after a multicar crash sent driver Kyle Larson's car airborne into the frontstretch fencing just before the finish line, ESPN reports.

Twelve cars were involved in the crash. The front of Larson's car was sheared off, and debris from the wreckage, including a tire, flew into the stands. Eleven fans were transferred to Halifax Medical Center, while four others were brought to Florida Memorial Hospital. Larson was uninjured, but fellow driver Michael Annett was transported to the hospital after slamming his head.

What time does the Daytona 500 start?

"Right now, the function is to determine what damage was done," NASCAR President Mike Helton said in a statement. "They are taking some folks to Halifax Medical Center. Our prayers and thoughts are with everyone they are working on."

Added Larson: "I hope all the fans are OK. I took a couple of big hits and saw my engine was gone. I was getting pushed from behind. Before I could react, it was too late. Flames came in the cockpit, but I was about to get out of the car quick."

Tony Stewart won the race.
