Nathan for You Is Officially Canceled, We're Pretty Sure
Comedy Central says it's done, but what if this is another one of Nathan Fielder's pranks? (It's not)
Sad but unsurprising news for comedy fans: Nathan for You, comedian Nathan Fielder's insane and brilliant satire/prank/reality Comedy Central show, is officially finished, TV Guide has confirmed. The decision was Fielder's.
In a statement, Comedy Central says, "For the past five years Comedy Central had the pleasure of working with the brilliant Nathan Fielder on Nathan For You. His innovative and quick-witted humor has made the show a comedic touchstone and we're proud to have been a part of it. We respect Nathan's decision to end the series and look forward to geeking out over his next project."

Nathan for You ran for four seasons from 2013 to 2017. The premise of the show was that Fielder, playing a fictionalized version of himself, was a management consultant who came up with attention-grabbing marketing gimmicks for real small businesses, whose owners didn't know that Fielder was actually making a comedy show, which led to exquisitely uncomfortable moments. It was also nearly impossible to distinguish between Nathan the character and Nathan the real person, which made it even funnier. Two of the show's stunts, Dumb Starbucks and Petting Zoo Hero, went viral by accident before their episodes even aired, with news outlets picking them up as if they were real news stories.
Nathan for You garnered significant critical acclaim throughout its run, and TV Guide recently named it the 25th best show on television. Its final episode, a two-hour epic in which Fielder helps a peculiar elderly man find a woman he loved in 1957, is one of the single greatest episodes of television this critic has ever seen. It serves as a fitting capstone for the series.
In the time since Nathan for You last aired, Fielder worked as a consulting producer and director on Sacha Baron Cohen's Who Is America?, another satirical prank show.
Part of me hopes that this is another Nathan for You misdirect and another season will be surprise-released a la Who Is America?, but that's just wishful thinking.
