As first reported by Broadway.com, Chase will play a successful and charming country music star named Luke who may become romantically involved with Rayna (Connie Britton). It is unclear how long Luke will be sticking around for, especially considering Oliver Hudson will also romance Britton's character sometime this season.

A Tony nominee, Chase reportedly left an upcoming off-Broadway production of Little Miss Sunshine to accept the role. Also known for playing Pat Mahoney on Rescue Me, Chase is best known for his role on Smash as Michael Swift, the performer who originally signed on to play Marilyn Monroe's second husband, Joe DiMaggio, in the fictional musical Bombshell and secretly carried on an affair with lyricist Julia (Debra Messing). Chase was one of four series regulars who did not return for the show's second and final season.

The new season of Nashville premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10/9c on ABC.
