Renegade journalist Hunter S. Thompson, who took first-person writing to a whole new level in books such as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, was found dead Sunday in his Aspen-area home of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 67. Thompson was portrayed by Johnny Depp in the 1998 film adaptation of Fear and Loathing. He was also the model for Garry Trudeau's Uncle Duke in "Doonesbury."
